Hey, I built a website

This was a long time coming, but I’m so glad I finally did it! Why did I do it?

For Freelance Design

I’ve been freelancing at a very low simmer for years. Always by word of mouth, friend of a friend. And I’ve loved the work I’ve done for people. Loved it so much, that I’m NOW intentionally putting out my sign as a freelance art director and graphic designer, to say Hi - I’d like to help you with your design needs. Especially if you are a budding entrepreneur or a small business owner looking to create a look and feel for your business or needing to update your brand with a look that looks Sleek and Polished, makes you feel great AND speaks to your ideal clients.

Why Squarespace?

I chose Squarespace. It’s meant to be easy to use and easy to update. And it is pretty easy to use. And they have lots of good-looking templates you can start with. However, I discovered that once you removed the stunning mood-rich photos and placed in your own photos, the look changed quite markedly. And it felt somewhere between Squarespace and yourself.

So I started over. Designed my own brand (more on that later) with logo, colors, fonts and patterns, and THEN started designing the site. So it is custom and feels unique, but still easy to update. I’m not sure if I’ll stay with Squarespace forever. Because both Showit and Shopify look pretty interesting too.

Other Platforms

Showit seems to offer a lot more flexibility in design AND the ability to add details that visually organize content. And I love organizing content visually.

Shopify - obviously offers the ability to build an online retail space. So far what I know is that Squarespace offers good support for an online store with up to 1,000 SKUs and Shopify is better for anything over that.
